Continuous Professional Learning and the CECE

Subject Description
The workshop examines the information provided by the College of ECE of Ontario (CECE) with regards to continuous professional learning, (CPL) requirements. These requirements were introduced in fall 2014 for all ECEs who wish to maintain their registration with the CECE. Workshop content will include definition of CPL , professional self- assessment and the development of a continuous professional learning portfolio.

Credit Status
NOTE:  For participants who wish to use this workshop as part of their CPL portfolio, please consult with the CECE to verify it is applicable to the CPL requirements.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1. Identify the elements of the Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) portfolio as required by the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE).
2. Analyze the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for ECEs as developed by the CECE.
3. Critique his/ her individual professional practice in Early Childhood Education in relation to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
4. Develop an individual CPL plan according to individual goals for professional practice.
5. Identify resources for implementing his/her individual CPL plan

Camera Use and Recordings - Synchronous (Live) Classes
Synchronous (live) classes may be delivered in person, in a Flexible Learning space, or online through a Seneca web conferencing platform such as MS Teams or Zoom. Flexible Learning spaces are equipped with cameras, microphones, monitors and speakers that capture and stream instructor and student interactions, providing an in-person experience for students choosing to study online.

Students joining a live class online may be required to have a working camera in order to participate, or for certain activities (e.g. group work, assessments), and high-speed broadband access (e.g. Cable, DSL) is highly recommended. In the event students encounter circumstances that impact their ability to join the platform with their camera on, they should reach out to the professor to discuss. Live classes may be recorded and made available to students to support access to course content and promote student learning and success.
