Subject Title
Strategic Evidence Based Decision Making

Subject Description
This course provides students with an introduction to decision theory and the effective use of evidence-based decision making to inform strategic decisions. Students examine the personal and social predispositions that inform decision making, and organizational conditions in order to understand the complexity of decision-making processes. In the course, students are introduced to the different methods and methodologies for external, competitor, and opportunity analyzes to support the development of a business strategy.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

  1. Explain the importance of the business-technology partnership to create and capture value.
  2. Summarize risk management strategies for enterprise growth and value creation.
  3. Describe how evidence-based decision making is used for strategic analysis.
  4. Evaluate how cognitive, psychological and social biases influence ethical decision making in a business setting for driving positive influence toward key performance indicators (KPIs).
  5. Explain the importance of using rational decision making for framing business issues, confirming bias, identifying anchoring, and choosing appropriate and effective strategies and tactics.
  6. Recommend a mitigation strategy that reduces the impact of statistical bias.
  7. Incorporate quantitative analysis from a variety of data sources into strategy formulation to maximize value creation and capture.
  8. Select tools and processes required to implement, support, and evaluate corporate decision support system strategy.
  9. Visualize key performance indicators by collecting statistics, creating tables and diagrams to benchmark results and generate actionable insights.

Camera Use and Recordings - Synchronous (Live) Classes
Synchronous (live) classes may be delivered in person, in a Flexible Learning space, or online through a Seneca web conferencing platform such as MS Teams or Zoom. Flexible Learning spaces are equipped with cameras, microphones, monitors and speakers that capture and stream instructor and student interactions, providing an in-person experience for students choosing to study online.

Students joining a live class online may be required to have a working camera in order to participate, or for certain activities (e.g. group work, assessments), and high-speed broadband access (e.g. Cable, DSL) is highly recommended. In the event students encounter circumstances that impact their ability to join the platform with their camera on, they should reach out to the professor to discuss. Live classes may be recorded and made available to students to support access to course content and promote student learning and success.
