Production Planning, Budgeting and Scheduling
Subject Description
In this course, students develop a more robust strategic communications plan that aligns with organizational objectives. Students explore how the strategic communications planning process dovetails with the organization's broader strategic planning process. With attention to budgeting and scheduling, the course focuses on the importance of relevancy and ensuring that communications and media activities are designed to achieve the strategic goals and objectives of the organization.

Credit Status
Mandatory course credit for all students in the Honours Bachelor of Communications and Media degree.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:
1. Identify the budget required to accomplish organizational objectives.
2. Identify the resources required to execute the production plan.
3. Establish a workable schedule for project implementation using the available resources.
4. Develop tactical plans based on settings of the overall of production plan and other activities to best meet the business objectives.
5. Select a business strategy that includes a sales plan, a production plan, budgets, financial statement, and support plans for materials and workforce requirements that align the business objectives.
6. Create and monitor output of a product and how that output affects other parts of a business plan.
7. Maximize the efficiency of company resources to establish benchmarks for future projects.
8. Develop a schedule that incorporates internal and external factors to deliver the product on time.

Camera Use and Recordings - Synchronous (Live) Classes
Synchronous (live) classes may be delivered in person, in a Flexible Learning space, or online through a Seneca web conferencing platform such as MS Teams or Zoom. Flexible Learning spaces are equipped with cameras, microphones, monitors and speakers that capture and stream instructor and student interactions, providing an in-person experience for students choosing to study online.
Students joining a live class online may be required to have a working camera in order to participate, or for certain activities (e.g. group work, assessments), and high-speed broadband access (e.g. Cable, DSL) is highly recommended. In the event students encounter circumstances that impact their ability to join the platform with their camera on, they should reach out to the professor to discuss. Live classes may be recorded and made available to students to support access to course content and promote student learning and success.
