Leadership in Responsible and Sustainable Management

Subject Description

This course aims to expand our understanding of sustainability and its impacts on leadership skills. The course addresses the global issues of sustainability, the existing concepts, and practices, and provides sustainability-enabled solutions to tackle the current issues from ecological perspectives. Technological change and innovation need to be directed towards inclusive and sustainable outcomes, through a purposeful effort by governments, in collaboration with civil society, business, and academia.

  1. Analyze globalization and its effects on business to determine best practices in a global landscape.
  2. Evaluate the economic, political, environmental, socio-cultural impacts of globalization on sustainability to determine key factors that influence a country’s ability to invest in sustainability initiatives.
  3. Investigate the opportunities and limitations likely to be experienced by business leaders to determine success factors in achieving sustainable objectives.
  4. Assess the economic, social-cultural, and environmental impacts of sustainability that support enterprise sustainability initiatives. 
  5. Research the influences of globalization on enterprises to critique current sustainability policies against industry standards.
  6. Analyze real-world scenarios involving technological advancements to identify the potential for inclusion and sustainability in government, civil, society, business, and academia roles.

Camera Use and Recordings - Synchronous (Live) Classes
Synchronous (live) classes may be delivered in person, in a Flexible Learning space, or online through a Seneca web conferencing platform such as MS Teams or Zoom. Flexible Learning spaces are equipped with cameras, microphones, monitors and speakers that capture and stream instructor and student interactions, providing an in-person experience for students choosing to study online.

Students joining a live class online may be required to have a working camera in order to participate, or for certain activities (e.g. group work, assessments), and high-speed broadband access (e.g. Cable, DSL) is highly recommended. In the event students encounter circumstances that impact their ability to join the platform with their camera on, they should reach out to the professor to discuss. Live classes may be recorded and made available to students to support access to course content and promote student learning and success.
