Business Management Career Planning

Subject Description

This subject is designed to prepare students with the knowledge and transferable skills required to assist in a successful career launch in the business sector. In addition to exploring the skills and qualities essential to obtain a position in their chosen career, students will prepare a career development campaign which will consist of resumes and cover letters, practice interviews and follow-up techniques. The importance of ethics and etiquette in the workplace will also be discussed. Both traditional and on-line methodologies will be integrated throughout the course.

  1. Create a cover letter and resume that links personal, education and work experience to employability skills in relevant industries in order to apply for jobs through traditional job search techniques. 
  2. Develop a job search strategy that aligns with personal goals and industry requirements in order to lead self-directed career strategies.
  3. Apply business communication and interview skills to further enhance student employability. 
  4. Develop a professional social media strategy in order to build a personal brand presence online
  5. Reflect on strengths/weakness and work preferences in the job search process.

Camera Use and Recordings - Synchronous (Live) Classes
Synchronous (live) classes may be delivered in person, in a Flexible Learning space, or online through a Seneca web conferencing platform such as MS Teams or Zoom. Flexible Learning spaces are equipped with cameras, microphones, monitors and speakers that capture and stream instructor and student interactions, providing an in-person experience for students choosing to study online.

Students joining a live class online may be required to have a working camera in order to participate, or for certain activities (e.g. group work, assessments), and high-speed broadband access (e.g. Cable, DSL) is highly recommended. In the event students encounter circumstances that impact their ability to join the platform with their camera on, they should reach out to the professor to discuss. Live classes may be recorded and made available to students to support access to course content and promote student learning and success.
