Pathopharmacology II
Subject Description
This course advances students' prior knowledge and experience by integrating concepts of pathophysiology and pharmacotherapy for clinical practice. It covers pathophysiological concepts such as disease manifestations, risk factors, and the underlying principles of pathology affecting body systems. Pharmacology is emphasized through fundamental drug classifications, principles, and medication calculations. Students will continue to apply the clinical judgement framework to examine various cardiac and chronic diseases. Students will adopt an integrated approach to understand the pathophysiology of body systems and the pharmacological agents used in managing diseases of these systems, supporting informed clinical decision-making.

- Continue to apply a clinical judgment framework to analyze pathophysiological concepts, pharmacological interventions, and nursing considerations in the management of cardiac and chronic diseases, ensuring the delivery of safe, ethical, and effective care.
- Determine pathophysiology & pharmacotherapy principles and concepts exploring their relationship with cardiac diseases for different body systems.
- Appreciate nursing considerations related to medication administration and evaluation of the major drug classes, including mechanism of action, indications, adverse and side effects
- Demonstrate an application of medication calculations and apply them to clinical scenarios to support strong clinical reasoning and safe medication practices.
- Examine laboratory, diagnostics, and therapeutic interventions for specific diseases to support clinical decision making.
- Appraise evidence-informed research to support clinical decision making and safe nursing practice in a variety of complex care situations

Camera Use and Recordings - Synchronous (Live) Classes
Synchronous (live) classes may be delivered in person, in a Flexible Learning space, or online through a Seneca web conferencing platform such as MS Teams or Zoom. Flexible Learning spaces are equipped with cameras, microphones, monitors and speakers that capture and stream instructor and student interactions, providing an in-person experience for students choosing to study online.
Students joining a live class online may be required to have a working camera in order to participate, or for certain activities (e.g. group work, assessments), and high-speed broadband access (e.g. Cable, DSL) is highly recommended. In the event students encounter circumstances that impact their ability to join the platform with their camera on, they should reach out to the professor to discuss. Live classes may be recorded and made available to students to support access to course content and promote student learning and success.
