Subject Description
SDE311 offers students an opportunity to further enhance their proficiency in Microsoft Office software, with a specific focus on Microsoft Excel. Throughout the course, students will acquire essential skills in data manipulation, entry, importation, organization, manipulation, and graphing. Additionally, they will learn how to format data effectively to create impactful presentations.

The curriculum of SDE311 encompasses various aspects of Excel. Students will become adept at generating formulas, utilizing a wide array of functions, exploring What-If analysis, and performing web queries. Furthermore, They will develop their ability to improve worksheets and charts, work with multiple worksheets and workbooks, and create templates to enhance overall efficiency and productivity. 

Students will also harness the power of data visualization tools to streamline data sharing and facilitate evaluation by users.

Credit Status
SDE311 is a required credit for all the Office Administration students enrolled in the Executive one-year accelerated diploma program.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

  1. Generate worksheets that cater to diverse business requirements.
  2. Enhance the presentation of worksheet data and charts to convey information effectively.
  3. Perform arithmetic operations by utilizing functions and formulas within a worksheet.
  4. Manipulate multiple worksheets and workbooks to consolidate and establish data links.
  5. Create, sort, and query worksheet tables/databases.
  6. Develop templates for standardizing business documents.
  7. Import data from external sources into worksheets and workbooks.
  8. Utilize data visualization tools such as Tableau and/or Power BI to design and craft compelling data presentations, effectively conveying ideas to an audience.

Camera Use and Recordings - Synchronous (Live) Classes
Synchronous (live) classes may be delivered in person, in a Flexible Learning space, or online through a Seneca web conferencing platform such as MS Teams or Zoom. Flexible Learning spaces are equipped with cameras, microphones, monitors and speakers that capture and stream instructor and student interactions, providing an in-person experience for students choosing to study online.

Students joining a live class online may be required to have a working camera in order to participate, or for certain activities (e.g. group work, assessments), and high-speed broadband access (e.g. Cable, DSL) is highly recommended. In the event students encounter circumstances that impact their ability to join the platform with their camera on, they should reach out to the professor to discuss. Live classes may be recorded and made available to students to support access to course content and promote student learning and success.
