Webmaster Project

Subject Description
Students work independently with their client, applying the skills taught throughout the program to build a professional, working website. Sites range in topic and function, and the real life implementation provides an opportunity to ease into the process of building a website under expert guidance. Sites selected are from a broad range of industries, and have a broad range of goals. Part of the student's objective is to research the industry, identify the site goals, and provide input into the development process.

Credit Status
1 Credit towards Web Design and Development Certificate.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1. Design and implement a working web site that meets client and instructor criteria.
2. Adapt their newly-learned design knowledge to the specific needs of their client.
3. Plan, organize and manage appointments/agendas for face-to-face and telephone meetings.
4. Monitor, anticipate, and respond effectively to client conflict and/or dissatisfaction.
5. Balance the client's design needs and preferences with responsive designs that work consistently well on all computing and mobile platforms.
6. Negotiate (and re-negotiate) their project's time-lines, deliverables and scope
7. Improve written and oral communication skills for business

Camera Use and Recordings - Synchronous (Live) Classes
Synchronous (live) classes may be delivered in person, in a Flexible Learning space, or online through a Seneca web conferencing platform such as MS Teams or Zoom. Flexible Learning spaces are equipped with cameras, microphones, monitors and speakers that capture and stream instructor and student interactions, providing an in-person experience for students choosing to study online.

Students joining a live class online may be required to have a working camera in order to participate, or for certain activities (e.g. group work, assessments), and high-speed broadband access (e.g. Cable, DSL) is highly recommended. In the event students encounter circumstances that impact their ability to join the platform with their camera on, they should reach out to the professor to discuss. Live classes may be recorded and made available to students to support access to course content and promote student learning and success.

Modes of Evaluation
Since this is a professional credit subject, marking standards reinforce professional practice by demanding consistent and coherent work that is submitted on time.  Late assignments are penalized.  Begin your assignments early in anticipation of unforeseen problems and a heavy workload in your other courses. 

Assignments should be documented to the instructor's standards.  Where relevant, written work should be well organized and grammatically correct, with proper spelling and punctuation.   

While attendance is not formally a part of this evaluation schedule, you should be aware that absenteeism will almost guarantee your inability to achieve satisfactory grades. There is no formal provision for make-up assignments. 

To attain a passing grade for this subject, students must obtain a mark of 50% or higher. 

Grading is based on the following marking scheme:
