We want your Seneca experience to be as safe and worry-free as possible.
Your Basic Medical Coverage begins on the 1st day of the semester, when you
are officially enrolled as a full-time (registered
in at least 80% of the program semester courses) and ends after
the last day of the semester.
Please Note:
If you are travelling to Canada with a spouse and/or children, it is your
responsibility to purchase medical coverage for them.
It is the official policy of Seneca College that all employees and
students have the right to work and study in a safe environment, free

Medical Coverage
Your Medical coverage includes services such as hospital and doctor
services in Ontario, diagnostic laboratory and x-ray services, eye
examinations, emergency services, and medically necessary dental care in
hospital. The plan provides for doctor's services, and hospital ward
accommodation.
Extended Supplementary Medical Insurance Plans can also be
purchased by the student. Please
contact us for further details. It covers eligible drug expenses, services
of specified practitioners, out-of-Canada coverage, and vision care.
We strongly recommend that you provide YOUR OWN MEDICAL COVERAGE,
outside of the semester or semesters, where you
are NOT ENROLLED as a full-time (registered in at least 80% of the

Safety In The City
Toronto has a reputation as one of the safest large cities in North
America. Still, police, fire, or medical emergencies can occur.
If you need to call the police, fire department, or ambulance/paramedics, just
dial the 9-1-1 emergency number at any time, 24 hours a day.
You can dial this on public pay phones without charge. This number is for
real emergencies only and should not be abused.
If you wish to call
the Toronto Police, they have a NON-Emergency Number, (416) 808-2222.

Your Safety
Toronto, is like every big city in the world. You must be street smart!
|
Never carry large amounts of cash with you - leave it in the bank
and withdraw it in small amounts or better yet, pay by cheque or
debit/credit card only.
|
|
Don't draw undue attention to yourself by waving money, or wearing
expensive jewelry when walking in the street or using public transit
systems.
|
|
Don't accept rides from strangers.
|
|
Practise good traffic safety - always cross streets at the traffic
lights and on green lights only.
|
|
If you are riding a bicycle, follow all the same rules you would in
a car, and wear white or glow in the dark clothing, when riding your
bike at night.
|
|
All Canadian banks, credit card companies, and even the police, are
never allowed to ask you for financial information over the phone.
When asked over the phone, get the person's name and telephone
number, inform them you will call them back and ask our
International Seneca staff for help and assistance.
